School Sports Funding Action Plan
To ensure that all pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport the Government provides additional funding to education providers. This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – will be allocated to primary school head teachers. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. (DfE, Nov 2013)
Possible uses for the funding include:
-
Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
-
New or additional Change4Life sport clubs
-
Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
-
Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
-
Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
-
Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
-
Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs
