Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

If you child is eligible for free school meals they are also entitled to a sum of money paid directly to school to boost their learning. The Government provide this money because research shows that children who receive free school meals do less well in statutory tests than their peers. The pupil premium grant is intended to directly benefit those children who are eligible to ensure that free school meal children do as well, or better, than those who do not benefit from the grant.

Is your child eligible?

Schools are given money for:

  • Children who have qualified for free school meals (not universal free school meals) at any point in the last 6 years. We receive £1,345 for every child who is eligible for the grant
  • If a child has been looked after by Local Authority care for more than 1 day they are also eligible for the premium grant and school receives £1,900 for each child in this situation.

How is it spent?

All schools can choose how they spend the pupil premium money based on the needs of the children and the context of their school. At Allenton we use the money to ensure all children are able to access curriculum enrichment, such clubs and learning visits, but we also use the grant to provide children with additional learning opportunities to ensure they do not fall behind their peers.

To find out in detail the money that we receive and how it is spent please look at the web strategy documents below.
